Summers are fast approaching and
in a few days of time you would witness the hill stations flocking with huge
number of people. I am sure many of you must be also being planning to visit
somewhere especially my friends of North India because the summers in North India
are very painful.
There are several
places to be visited during the summers like Shimla, Manali, Nanital etc. but I
would recommend you to visit Darjeeling. It is situated in West Bengal in
Lesser Himalaya range.
Darjeeling is famous for its tea
plantations across the mountains. The town was a British colony before
independence and it has one of the oldest steam locomotive engines in India.
Darjeeling has various British style public schools with boarding which
attracts many students from different states. Since Darjeeling is a part of
Eastern Himalayan geographic zone, it has sal, oak forests which look really
beautiful. You can find rare variety of orchids in these forests. Darjeeling tea is known
worldwide and it is recommended to bring home 2-3 packets if you are a
lover of tea.
Besides tea the best thing about Darjeeling is
the’ Darjeeling Himalayan Railway ‘which is A UNESCO world heritage site. It
resembles with the toy train one in Shimla. The 78 kms ride starts from new Jalpaiguri and
ends in Darjeeling. The journey captures one of the most marvelous and
picturesque landscapes and it’s certainly a memory of lifetime. So I think I
have told enough of Darjeeling to arouse your interest in the city and I Won’t
tell you the rest as I want you to go and explore the beauty yourself.
